The problem

Good content cannot rank on a site Google struggles to read

Most ranking problems we find are not about content. Pages are blocked from Google by mistake, old URLs return errors, the same page exists at three addresses, or the site is slow on a phone.

These problems are invisible to visitors and easy to miss in a redesign. They affect AI search too: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI answers rely on pages that can be crawled and understood.

Most technical fixes happen behind the scenes, in templates, settings and server rules.

What's included

What's included in technical SEO

We check and fix the foundations, starting with the problems that cost you the most traffic.

Crawling and indexing

Search Console coverage, robots.txt, XML sitemaps and noindex rules, so the right pages are indexed and the rest are not.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Page speed and Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP and CLS) on your key templates, with fixes to images, caching, fonts and scripts.

Redirects and errors

404 errors, redirect chains, broken internal links and soft 404s found and fixed, with a clean 301 redirect map.

Duplicates and canonicals

Duplicate pages, URL parameters and canonical tags sorted, so Google knows which version of each page to rank.

Structured data

Schema markup for your organisation, services, articles, FAQs and products, tested in Google’s Rich Results Test.

Site migrations

Relaunches, platform moves and domain changes planned with URL mapping and checks, so rankings carry across.

How it works

How a technical SEO project works

Step 1

Crawl and review

We crawl the site, review Google Search Console and GA4, and test your key page templates on mobile and desktop.

Step 2

Prioritise

You get a fix list ranked by impact and effort, in plain English, with the reason for each fix.

Step 3

Fix

We make the changes in WordPress, or brief your developers with exact instructions and check their work.

Step 4

Validate and monitor

We request reindexing, track coverage and speed in Search Console and report what changed.

Platforms

Technical SEO for WordPress, WooCommerce and other platforms

Most of the sites we work on run on WordPress, often with Elementor, WooCommerce and Yoast SEO. We can fix templates, plugins, caching and redirects directly, and keep them fixed through our Website and Systems Care Plan.

We also work on Shopify, BigCommerce, Squarespace and Wix, where we set the platform’s SEO options and work around its limits. On a rebuild, technical SEO is part of our website design process from the start.

  • Hosting, caching and image compression reviewed
  • HTTPS, mixed content and security headers checked
  • Clean heading structure and semantic HTML on every template
  • Internal links planned with information architecture

Common questions

What is technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the work that helps search engines crawl, index and understand your website: speed, indexing rules, redirects, duplicate pages, site structure and structured data. It sits underneath content and on-page SEO and supports both.

How do I know if my site has technical SEO problems?

Common signs are pages missing from Google, rankings that fall after a redesign, errors in Google Search Console and slow pages on mobile. Our AI Search Visibility Audit is a fixed-scope way to find out.

Do you fix the problems or just report them?

Both. We can make the fixes in WordPress ourselves, or give your developers a prioritised list with clear instructions and check the work once it is done.

Can you protect our rankings during a website migration?

Yes. We map every old URL to its new address, set up 301 redirects, carry over titles and descriptions, and watch Google Search Console in the weeks after launch.

Does technical SEO help with AI search?

Yes. AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity rely on pages they can crawl and understand. Clean indexing, fast pages and schema markup make your content easier to find and quote.
